RiSE Study - Race-Based Stress Reduction and Resilience Program for African-American Women: Paid Research Studies

This week in the paid research studies series, we’re highlighting the RISE Study, which focuses on the well-being of older women of color.

Columbia University is conducting a research study titled Race-Based Stress Reduction and Resilience Program for African-American Women aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of a specialized eight-week stress reduction program. This study is specifically designed for older African-American women who may be at risk for heart disease and have experienced race-based stress.
Eligibility Requirements:
Identify as an African-American woman
Aged 50 to 75 years old
Post-menopausal (no menstrual period for at least 12 months)
No history of heart attack or stroke
Must have at least one heart disease risk factor, such as:
Being overweight
High cholesterol
Diabetes
High blood pressure
Or currently taking medication for high blood pressure
Study Involves:
Participating in an eight-week online stress reduction class, held once weekly for 2 hours in the evening
Completing surveys and providing saliva samples during four in-person visits
This study is non-invasive, does not involve medication, and will not interfere with current medical care
All information will be kept confidential
Compensation:
Participants may receive up to $500 for their time and participation.
